Today is National Falls Prevention Day.
At Chicago Tai Chi, we know that Falls Prevention is really important for our students and clients.
Falls are a major health risk for older adults. An estimated 1/3 of adults over age 65 fall annually. Many falls result in serious injury. This is a scary, costly, and growing problem, especially as our population ages.
Here’s the good news: Research shows that Tai Chi practice reduces falls risk in older adults. The Center for Disease Control, the National Council on Aging, and other agencies and organizations recommend Tai Chi for Falls Prevention.
There are other interventions that can reduce falls risk too; this is an important and active area of ongoing research.
As an example, watch the video of our Tai Chi students below. Don’t they look stable and balanced? That what Tai Chi can do.
