Improving Posture with Tai Chi
With Dan Kleiman’s gracious permission, I am sharing his recent video on “Avoiding Bad Tai Chi Posture.” Dan is Program Director of Brookline Tai Chi, a good friend, and strong supporter of Enso’s Tai Chi program. For lots of useful material on Tai Chi and Qigong, check out Dan’s site Movement Arts with Dan Kleiman.
Some of the themes from Dan’s video themes should be familiar to Enso Tai Chi students:
- Tai Chi’s basic alignments include relaxing the tailbone down, while gently lifting the spine from the occipit and crown point.
- Basic alignments help generate gentle traction on the spine, opening space between the vertebrae.
- Basic alignments help counteract the imbalances, compressions, and tensions we induce with the “postures” we often collapse into, especially when tense at a desk, in front of a computer, for hours and hours.
Dan’s short video goes further, discussing how focusing on spinal alignments and posture can lead to better rooting and lengthening. All of which will help your Tai Chi and much more.
Check out Dan’s video and let me know what you think.
