A little of my story. By many measures, I've led an active life. I played football through college. I flew fighter jets for the US Navy. I am a karate black belt and competed for many years. I have completed the Chicago Marathon twice. I've engaged in lots of different exercise and physical activity over many years.
But all that high impact activity came at a price.
I've sustained multiple knee injuries. I've had 2 knee operations. I have clinical diagnoses of osteoarthritis (OA) in both my knees.
Starting about 15 years years ago, my knees begin to hurt. A lot. It hurt to climb stairs. It really hurt to go down stairs. It hurt to get out of a chair. It hurt to sit in a car. It hurt to jog or roughhouse with my kids. No fun!
Just to exercise and sometimes just to get through the day, I would take lots of ibuprofen. I became increasingly worried that I would lose my ability to be active and mobile.
Fast-forward. Today, my knees are strong, springy, and flexible. Most importantly, I no longer have chronic pain.
