Over 300 years ago, English philosopher Thomas Hobbes wrote,

"Knowledge is Power"

My view— this aphorism applies with equal force today across much of the human experience.

Including protecting your knees and eliminating knee pain.

For that reason, I begin my book, Tai Chi for Knee Health, with a chapter entitled Getting to Know Your Knees.

The chapter covers key knee anatomy and physiology.

It explores the #1 cause of knee pain in adults, knee osteoarthritis.

It also describes the promising research supporting how Tai Chi movements can heal your knees.

In my video course, the Tai Chi for Knee Health Masterclass, I begin with a presentation of "Getting to Know Your Knees."

Students consistently tell me how much it helps them understand what's going on in their knees.

So I want to share that presentation with you.

We've edited it into two parts.

Part 1 covers key knee anatomy and how the structure of the knee makes it super-strong in the vertical.

But that same structure makes the knee susceptible to injury from lateral forces and twisting forces.

That's why precise knee alignments are so important.

You can find Getting to Know Your Knees Part 1 here.

Getting to Know Your Knees Part 2 explores the #1 cause of knee pain in adults— Knee Osteoarthritis (Knee OA).

More than 10 million of us in the US (yes, including me) have Knee OA. It's a leading cause of disability.

As I explain in the video, Knee OA can draw you into a downward spiral of increasing pain and increasing loss of function.

But it doesn't have too.

In the video, I also explore the promising science showing how the right kind of low-impact exercise can benefit Knee OA.

One type of exercise that science tells us is especially beneficial for Knee OA is the low-impact, flowing movements of Tai Chi.
